Barnhart Prairie
The Barnhart Prairie Nature Preserve is located about 2 miles south of Urbana, IL. The Barnhart family has been involved in prairie restoration since 1987. The Conservation 2000 program through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources helped the family set aside over 80 acres for the purpose of restoration. In 2004, CCSWCD got involved in the project by purchasing several adjoining acres from the Barnhart family. These acres were planted to bring the total prairie acres to 100!
Today, many different species of prairie grasses and flowers can be seen at the Barnhart Prairie. The prairie has many mowed pathways to help you enjoy nature.
